Sharon Lai (November 2024)

District 3 Supervisor

We are excited to endorse Sharon Lai for District 3 Supervisor. As a former member of the SFMTA board, advocate for transit safety, and supporter of tenants’ rights and rent control, we believe that Sharon is the best choice for District 3 Supervisor.

Sharon has also worked closely with families living in SROs (Single-room Occupancies) and has a deep understanding of how bad labor practices tie into many working-class families being unable to move out of poor living conditions. Given the number of families living in SROs in Chinatown, Sharon’s experience is necessary to ensure SROs are better maintained and improve the quality of life for people living in them. Sharon also worked to pass Prop A on the March Primary ballot, with an understanding that we need more affordable housing so families can move out of SROs.

Sharon’s vision for District 3 will also help improve the quality of life for many residents. Sharon will fight for investments in community-based approaches to public safety like violence prevention, mental health services, and community ambassadors. Sharon also knows we cannot criminalize our way out of homelessness that has resulted from a lack of affordable housing. That’s why, as Supervisor, she is committed to investing in the solutions that work to combat homelessness. Sharon plans to bring in money for affordable housing through a regional bond, expand protections against unjust evictions, and extend access to tenants rights counseling. With experience as an SFMTA Commissioner, Sharon also has a vision for safer streets by implementing road designs to slow drivers down, limiting turns on red lights, and improving visibility for pedestrians and drivers through daylighting crossings.

Along with her policy platforms, as a Chinese American immigrant herself, we firmly believe that Sharon Lai will give a voice to District 3’s Chinese immigrant community in City Hall. Vote Sharon Lai this November!
