Judge Patrick Thompson (March 2024)

San Francisco Superior Court

Right-wing forces in and outside our city are looking to weaponize our city’s problem to push their political agenda of more police, more gentrification, and more profits for their companies. They came after our city’s first progressive district attorney, Chesa Boudin, and launched a recall effort to remove him from office less than two years after he took his seat. Then, they went after progressive Board of Supervisor members. The DA and two Supervisor seats were filled with people who are reverting back to policies that promote harsh policing and mass incarceration that makes our city less safe and targets BIPOC communities.

Now that these right-wing operatives have few left to blame but their own failed policies and candidates, they are turning to two judges, trying to make a spin that judges have the power to act support certain political agendas, when in reality their sole job is to apply the law as it is written in a fair manner.

Judicial elections should not be partisan. Judges are not lawmakers like the mayor or the Board of Supervisors. That’s why, to become a judge in California, candidates go through a thorough vetting process by the State Bar of California to be appointed by the governor.

This is yet another power grab by the right-wing forces in San Francisco. We know that Judge Michael Isaku Begert and Judge Patrick Thompson are more than capable of doing their jobs in a fair and impartial way. They were even determined to be well-qualified by the SF Bar Association. Their opponents? Never accepted the invitation to be evaluated by the SF Bar Association.

Let’s keep partisanship out of our judicial races. Vote for Judge Michael Begert and Judge Patrick Thompson by March 5th, 2024!
