We’re endorsing Virginia Cheung for the Board of Education. Virginia is the co-founder and Vice President of Give a Beat Foundation which uses the power of music as a pathway to healing and opportunity for those impacted by the criminal justice system. She was also the Director of Advancement at Wu Yee Children’s Services, and has years of experience working with children and families facing socioeconomic barriers. She is also the mother of a student in SFUSD.
We support Virginia for the School Board because she plans to focus on supporting and strengthening San Francisco’s public schools, not charter schools, which divert funding away from public education and can isolate communities.
Virginia also plans to advocate for mentorship, counseling, and on-site health services to support students’ mental health, well-being, and academic success. She believes we should be listening to feedback from students and incorporating that into the school closure planning process. Virginia will also work to remove barriers and deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate support for students so they have what they need to thrive.
We follow the leadership of Coleman Action Fund – who works with students in the K-12 school system – for our Board of Education endorsements.
